Mount Vernon hospital automatic reception proves a hit with patients and staff
Pioneering Trust shows the way by saving resources and improving its service
With more than 2,500 patients per month to be checked in for appointment, the Savience Assure automatic reception system has brought major benefits to patients and staff at the Mount Vernon Treatment Centre in Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust.
Lengthening queues, pressures on staff time and the time-wasted by nurses and clinicians in leading patients to appointments were features that had previously beset the management of outpatient appointments at the Mount Vernon Treatment Centre. With the merging of the various clinic receptions into one, a new approach was sought.
Installed earlier this year in very tight timescales, the Savience Assure self-service reception brought immediate benefits to patients and staff.
“The implementation of the Savience touch screen patient check-in and call system has completely changed the reception and waiting room atmosphere,” explained Christine Palmer, Nurse Manager at Mount Vernon. “Queues are significantly reduced; patients and staff feel calmer; nurses concentrate on care instead of ‘couriering’ patients and notes from room to room.
“There has been a huge impact on the patients’ experience and our workloads. Even consultants who were initially apprehensive about the system are now asking if it can be implemented elsewhere.”
This integrated Savience appointment management system is working smoothly and effectively from all perspectives.
Patients of all ages readily take to the self-service system and benefit from a more streamlined and faster service.
Reception staff can instantly see who has arrived and who has not, make changes to appointments or set follow-ups, and track patients’ progress.
Clinicians can view their day’s appointments, see when a patient is ready and call them at the touch of a button.
With less time consumed by various administration duties, nursing staff can now concentrate more fully on patient care.
Roger Everitt, Managing Director of Savience, said; “The Mount Vernon Treatment Centre was conceived as a pioneering facility and I am delighted that they have installed Savience Assure and so clearly demonstrated the very quick return on their modest investment. They welcome other NHS trusts wanting to see for themselves how straightforward and cost-effective it is to implement the Savience self-service appointment management system.”
Savience Assure is currently being used in 15 hospitals, 750 doctors’ surgeries and 37 dentists’ practices throughout the UK.
